Midori

Midori began in Japan in 1950 as a maker of fine writing paper and envelopes, and paper is still where everything starts. Its own MD Paper, developed in-house for writing, is smooth and faintly creamy, with just enough tooth for a fountain pen nib to grip. The MD Notebook built around it is famously understated: a thread-bound block in a glassine wrapper, with a quiet cover and nothing to get in the way of your first page.

This collection gathers Midori's MD notebooks and diaries alongside the small things that make it a favourite with journallers: rubber stamps, washi tape, decorative paper clips and brass desk tools. The notebooks open perfectly flat, and the paper has a soft, almost velvety feel as your pen crosses it. You never have to choose between something beautifully made and something you will actually use every day. Buy one piece, and the rest of the range has a way of following it home.
